"...olio d’oliva un Vaso de lirette 6 per miodiar la sabbia da gettare come anca per saldar le canne.."

                                           C.Prati

Guidelines for the creation of pipes are offered by documents relating to work performed by Charles Meadows in the Cathedral of Milan in 1689. In its request for materials needed in the work we read: P.a piombo lire 150 per far lingue et saldatura, 2° legna e carbone, sabbia et oncie 12 argento vivo per far saldatura, 3° olio d’oliva un Vaso de lirette 6 per miodiar la sabbia da gettare come anca per saldar le canne é [...], due sedazze per sedazzare la sabbia”. The sheets of Prati are cast, plane and then hammering on the inner surface.

Orgryte Nya kyrka

The University Research Center Goteborg Organ Art Center in Goteborg (Sweden) has developed a research's series of historical and scientific to analyze the ancient technique of building bodies, referring to authors such as Schnitger, Fritzsche and Scherer. In particular repropose thrown's on the sand of the sheet for the pipes organ, and analyze's with a modern methodology benefits and special features of this process. This research led to the creation in 2000 of the Orgryte Nya kyrka, recreating the processes found on original instruments

We had the opportunity to engage in work experience at the laboratory of GoArt to Goteborg (Sweden). we were able to practice's thrown on sand , the processing on the sheet's casting and the techniques construction of old pipes second model Schnitger

GoArt Laboratory, Goteborg, during the stage

In our laboratory we have equipped a foundry provided with a canvas bench, a bench of sand, crucible and hammer-machine to the sheets. Choosing carefully sand it responds to special features, we mixed this with extra virgin olive oil.

With The possibility to produce in the laboratory the sheets we can make integrations and reconstructions of the pipes for restoration extremely compatible with the old material. The alloy is carefully studied in relation to chemical analysis of samples originals.

The metal sheet is planed by scraped-machine, simulating the hand-planing, and then cut to the dimensions of the register desired.
